What's The Difference Between Mouth-To-Lung (MTL) and Direct-To-Lung (DTL or DL) Vaping?

Mouth-to-lung (MTL) vaping

Mouth-To-Lung (or MTL) vaping is the same way you would draw back on a traditional cigarette. This method of inhaling is when you suck the vapour up into your mouth first and then remove the device from your mouth and take a second inhalation down into you lungs. Mouth-To-Lung (MTL) devices are quite specific and they have restricted airflow to provide the right amount to airflow resistance needed to comfortably fill the mouth before inhaling. MTL devices are usually lower wattage and have higher resistance coils. MTL vaping is considered comfortable and is the most common form of vaping done by people that are using e-cigarettes as an alternative to smoking traditional cigarettes.

To ensure that the throat hit satisfying, MTL vapers tend to use a higher strength nicotine e-liquid. This is because you are only inhaling what you can draw into the mouth and the nicotine needs to be higher to ensure that on the second inhalation the nicotine is sufficiently high enough to satisfy the user.

MTL vaping is inhaling the same way you would smoke a traditional cigarette, by drawing the vapour up into mouth before inhaling it down into you lungs. MTL devices have restricted airflow, usually work at a lower wattage and have higher resistant coils.

Direct -To-Lung (DTL or DL) vaping

Direct-To-Lung (DTL or DL) vaping is when you inhale the vapour directly into the lungs in one go. DTL vaping is like taking a big deep breath and although this is a common way to vape, it can initially be a little uncomfortable. Usually when we inhale on a traditional cigarette we draw the smoke up into our mouth before inhaling it down into our chest and in a way this is how we have adapted to inhaling. However, once you are used to it, DL vaping can be more enjoyable than MTL vaping.

Direct-To-Lung devices have very open airflow with very little restriction. DL devices are usually operated at higher a wattage than MTL devices. The nicotine strength for DL vaping tends to be lower due to the fact that you are inhaling much more vapour and stronger nicotine e-liquids can be harsh on the throat.

Direct-To-Lung (DTL or DL) vaping is when you inhale the vapour directly into your lungs in one big breath. DL devices have increased airflow and the device tend to be used at a higher wattage with lower resistant coils.
