The strength of vape e-liquid is not the same as the strength of your preferred cigarettes. When selecting the strength of your e-liquid it is important to consider:
When using Freebase Nicotine e-liquid for Mouth-To-Lung (MTL) vaping, the typical range is from 6mg through to 18mg. Freebase nicotine is strong and has a noticeable throat hit, so higher levels (above 12mg) are less common than lower levels. Use the table below as a guide for choosing your strength.
Use the table below as a guide for choosing your nicotine strength when using Freebase Nicotine with a Moth-To-Lung (MTL) device.
weak | 6mg or less |
medium | 6mg to 8mg |
strong | 8mg to 12mg (or as high as 18mg) |

When using Nicotine Salt e-liquid for Mouth-To-Lung (MTL) vaping, the typical range is from 20mg through to 50mg. Nicotine Salt e-liquid is less noticeable (less harsh) on the throat and due to its molecular characteristics, it can be used at much higher concentration compared to Freebase Nicotine.
Use the table below as a guide for choosing your nicotine strength when using Nicotine Salts with a Moth-To-Lung (MTL) device.
weak | 20mg |
medium | 20mg to 30mg |
strong | 30mg to 40mg |

When using Freebase Nicotine e-liquid for Diect-To-Lung (DTL or DL) vaping, the typical e-liquid strength range varies from 2mg or 3mg through to 6mg and in some rare cases as high as 8mg.
In general the general the strength of nicotine used for Direct-Lung (DL) vaping is lower than the strength used for Mouth-To-Lung (MTL) vaping. This is due to the fact that Direct Lung (DL) devices use a higher wattage, with maximum airflow and they deliver much more vapour than a MTL device.

medium | 3mg to 6mg |
strong | 6mg to 8mg |

It is not common for people to use Nicotine Salts when Direct-Lung vaping. However, recently there have been a number of e-liquid companies that are developing nicotine salt based e-liquids for Direct-Lung use. Typically people are using strengths similar to Freebase Nicotine e-liquids and in some cases slightly higher. However, if you are planning on using nicotine salts for DL vaping it is recommended to use the above Freebase Nicotine table as a guide.
Use the calculator below to calculate how much of the nicotine concentrate needs to be added to your bottle of e-liquid to make your target strength (required strength). The first cell ‘Target Strength (mg/ml)’ is the strength you would like to make your e-liquid. The second cell ‘Nicotine Concentrate Strength (mg/ml)’ is the strength (concentration) of your nicotine concentrate. In most cases this will be 100(mg/ml). The third cell ‘Bottle Size (ml)’ is the size (or volume) of your bottle of e-liquid.
